What to Expect

ADMISSION PROCESS

The admission process begins with an assessment by clinicians working with the local community mental health center or hospital emergency rooms and a screening by a Harris physician to determine a person’s level of danger to self or others due to a mental disorder. Patients are admitted for acute care and stabilization on an emergency basis. Patrick B. Harris serves patients ages 18 & older.

If you or a loved one are in crisis, please contact the Suicide& Crisis Lifeline at 988.

DISCHARGE PROCESS

Patients are typically discharged one of two ways, either by their treating physician and/or treatment team, or by Order of the Court.  Patients and their treatment teams work on discharge plans and their timing.  A transition specialist and the patient’s social worker coordinate aftercare needs to ensure the patient’s success and stability after release from the hospital.  Additionally, some patients may be ordered by the probate court to participate in outpatient mental health treatment following discharge at a local mental health facility for a specified period of time.

AFTERCARE

The Social Work department along with the BHDD Office of Mental Health Transitions Program, patient, and family work to coordinate a local Mental Health Center follow up appointment within 5 days of discharge, along with other wraparound services in the community, if appropriate. Those services could include the Drug and Alcohol Commission, a VA Outpatient Clinic, or a preferred private provider, as appropriate.

Leadership

Allen McEniry, Chief Executive Officer

After graduation from the Georgia Institute of Technology, Mr. McEniry embarked upon a military career in the United States Army as an infantry officer.  Upon retirement from the Army, he had a successful profession in higher education administration prior to joining HPH in 2008.  Mr. McEniry assumed the role of HPH Director in July 2016 after serving eight years as the Chief Operating Officer at the facility.

Mr. McEniry sees continuation of existing public-private collaborative partnerships and development of new ones as a viable means of leveraging inherent strengths for the benefit of the patients and shareholders alike.
