Maxwell Appointed to SC Mental Health Commission

Columbia, SC – Crystal A. Maxwell, MD, of Fort Mill, has been appointed to serve as a member of the South Carolina Mental Health Commission, filling the seat for South Carolina’s Fifth Congressional district.

Dr. Maxwell, who is Board certified in Family Medicine, received her MD from the University of Tennessee School of Medicine, where she also completed her residency. She also holds a physician master’s degree in business administration from Auburn University. Dr. Maxwell is the founder and chief executive officer of LIGHT Family Wellness in Fort Mill, South Carolina, where she also serves as a physician.

“Dr. Maxwell brings not only extensive knowledge as a practicing primary care physician to the SC Mental Health Commission, but also a dedication to providing patient-focused treatment,” said SC Mental Health Commission Chair Greg Pearce. “This treatment philosophy is integral to the mission of the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (BHDD) Office of Mental Health, and these areas, along with her knowledge of healthcare administration, will make her a valuable addition to the Commission.”

The South Carolina Mental Health Commission, which meets monthly, is the governing body of the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (BHDD) Office of Mental Health. Commissioners are appointed by the Governor with the advice and consent of the Senate.
