Community Residential Care Facilities

Community residential care facilities (CRCF) offer room and board and which, unlike boarding homes, provide a degree of personal care for a period of time in excess of 24 consecutive hours for two or more persons, 18 years old or older. CRCFs are often referred to as “assisted living facilities.” CRCFs should accommodate residents’ changing needs and preferences, maximize residents’ dignity, autonomy, privacy, independence, and safety and encourage family and community involvement.

Community residential care facilities (CRCF) are licensed and monitored by the South Carolina Department of Public Health’s Division of Health Licensing.  Every CRCF is routinely inspected and is required to post their Department of Health and Environmental Control (the South Carolina Department of Public Health) license in a conspicuous location in the facility. To learn more about the licensing process and the Division of Health Licensing visit their Web site at www.scdhec.gov.

South Carolina alshttp://www.scdhec.net/o requires that administrators of a CRCF be licensed. The South Carolina Board of Long- Term Health Care Administrators (LTHCA) licenses qualified individuals as CRCF administrators and oversees continuing education, discipline, and practice of administration. To learn more about the administrator’s licensing process and LTHCA visit their Web site at: www.llr.state.sc.us.
