Intake Process

As part of the intake process, you will meet with a Master Level Therapist for a clinical assessment to help determine the best way to meet your needs.

  1. Individuals needing services can walk in between 8-2pm Monday-Friday.  Should this not meet your needs, please call our ACCESS line at 803-508-7913 Monday-Friday between 8:30am-5:00pm to discuss other options. It may be necessary to leave a message on our ACCESS line while we are helping other customers; however, a Mental Health Professional will return your call as soon as possible. We will need some items to help process your intake.  We ask that you bring proof of identification, your insurance card or proof of income for fee reduction consideration and, if you recently were discharged from a hospital, jail, or substance abuse program, the discharge paperwork. Our Patient Registration staff will work with you to obtain needed paperwork if your appointment is delivered via telehealth.

Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by their legal guardian at the time of intake to receive services. If service is delivered via telehealth, the legal guardian will need to be present for the session.  We will need the child’s and guardian’s identification, the child’s and guardian’s social security card, insurance card and child’s immunization record.  Please make childcare arrangements for other children.

When planning your schedule, please set aside at least 3 hours for patient registration and the initial assessment with the Mental Health Professional.

  2. If you have private insurance, please contact your insurance company for a referral within your network prior to coming to ABMHC.  If you choose to utilize ABMHC’s services in lieu of a provider in your network, full payment is expected for services provided.

  3. A hardship reduction is available based on family size and income. We must have proof of income to determine eligibility for the hardship reduction. Full fees will be assigned until such time as proof of income is provided and fee reduction is determined.  We can accept the following as proof of income:  Pay Stubs; Employee W-2 forms; Wage Tax Receipts; Federal Income Tax Return; Self-Employment Bookkeeping records; Employer’s Wage Record; Statements from Employers; Alimony or Child Support documentation; Documentation of Retirement income, social security, unemployment compensation, insurance annuity; Signed statement that the patient is the beneficiary of a trust or other source of readily available income or payment for healthcare expenses; and Employment Security Office Documentation.

  4. Benzodiazepines (e.g. Xanax, Klonopin, Ativan) will only be prescribed if the ABMHC Psychiatrist feels this is the most appropriate medication for you.  The psychiatrist may require participation in additional treatments when prescribing benzodiazepines.

  5. Our physicians participate in the on-line Prescription Monitoring Program known as SCRIPTS (South Carolina Reporting and Identification Prescription Tracking System). The system collects prescription data on ALL Schedule II, III and IV controlled substances dispensed in or into the state of South Carolina. A urine drug screen may be requested at the intake and as part of the treatment process.
